TopBar Beetle Traps

Description

This is a reusable beetle trap that is designed to be placed at the bottom of a TOP BAR hive between the honeycomb.  They are only 3/8 inches tall and 8 inches long so it will sit flat on the bottom of most top bar hives.  Add either DE (diatomaceous earth) or your choice of oil to the trap and the bees will chase the beetles into the trap.  When the trap is full or DE used up, you can dump the contents and reuse the trap!  No more wasting money throwing out old traps.  We are calling these top bar traps because they were designed to work between the honeycomb “frames” but they will certainly work as well in Layens or Langstroth style hives since they sit on the bottom of the hive.  We have other trap designs that might work better for those types of hives but this one can do the job as well.

Each multi pack contains a propolis removal tool to pop out any propolis the bees might have used to trap the beetles in the trap.

We have had great luck using DE in the bottom of the trap and then adding a small piece of pollen patty to draw in the hive beetles!  Just keep in mind that the DE will need to be replaced after it is full or if it gets damp.  DO NOT open these traps OVER the hive!  If the DE has gotten wet, then you could have live beetles in the box.  It is recommended to have a beetle smasher (or hive tool) ready and open the box over a flat surface away from the hive!

These traps are 3d printed using PETG so it is safe in the bee hive and can take some heat.  We are not giving an option for colors yet, and unlike the picture we believe bright colored traps will be better since the beekeeper can see them better.  So while these pictures are black traps, most will be green, yellow, or white.  If you have a color request when ordering, just add it to the order comments and will try to accommodate.
