Beetle Trap

Description

Can your beetle trap kill hundreds of beetles in one session?  Not all beetle traps are the same! 

These are reusable beetle traps that are placed between the frame tops.  Add DE (diatomaceous earth) to the trap and the bees will chase the beetles into the trap.  Once the beetles go in, the DE turns the trap into a “DeathTrap!”  When the trap is full or the DE is used up, you can dump the contents and reuse the trap!  No more wasting money throwing out old traps.  These traps will work with 10 frame boxes, 8 frame, nucs, or any Langstroph frames.  These traps sit flat on top of the frames so that beetles cannot hide under the lip of the trap…a very common problem in those cheap single-use traps.

Each 5 pack contains at least one propolis removal tool.  This is a simple tool that helps to pop the propolis out of the slots in the top of the trap.  Speaking of propolis, bees love to propolize everything inside the hive including the holes.  You can use the tool to pop out the propolis from each hole or you can remove the lid and throw it into the freezer for a couple hours to help remove it.  Some people even just open and close the lid several times and it can remove some of it as well.

All the trap bodies are made with translucent plastic.  While it is not perfectly transparent, you can still see through the sides fairly easily and will give you an idea how full the trap might be.

We have had great luck using DE in the bottom of the trap and then adding a small piece of pollen patty to draw in the hive beetles!  Just keep in mind that the DE will need to be replaced after it is full or if it gets damp.

These traps are 3d printed using PETG plastic so it is safe in the bee hive and can take some heat.  Most of the traps are in green because it is a bit easier to see over wood or black plastic frames.

These traps are not intended to work with Layens frame if they are using a solid top bar.  We do have box beetle traps that work well with Layens.

We also sell extra lids so you can quickly swap out lids that are caked with propolis.  Then you can remove the propolis when you do not have the hive open!
