Flat Trap

Description

These Flat Traps are beetle traps that are…flat!  Add a thin layer of diatomaceous earth (DE) to the trap and close it up.  The trap is flat enough you can add one or more to a standard bottom board and then the bees will chase the small hive beetles into the trap where they perish in the DE.  These are flat enough that they could sit on top of the frames, however, the beetles can only enter from the top, it is not recommended.   Please more than one on the bottom board to not only catch small hive beetles, but could also catch mites that might fall off the bees and into the traps.

In addition, this should easily fit on the bottom board for Layens, TopBar, or even Long Lang hives!

These traps are fully reusable!  Once a trap is full of beetles or the DE has gotten moist, simply wipe out the trap, add new DE, and replace in the hive!

The black dot is to help align the lid with the box when sliding it in place.

Placement in the hive:  They should be placed directly on the bottom board.  To place above the frames, there must be enough room for the bees to chase the beetles into the top entrances of the trap.  These traps cannot be placed on their sides or the DE will spill out.

The traps are 3d printed in green and black PETG and are food safe for bees.

As with all beetle traps, a strong bee colony will chase the beetles into the hive.  However, the trap can be “baited” with a small ball of pollen or pollen patty.  Simply open up the sheet and smear or place the pollen patty inside and close the sheet and return to the trap.

NOTE: Diatomaceous earth (DE) needs to be replaced every few weeks in humid conditions.
