Jar Feeder
$4.99
Description
This is an internal jar feeder designed to be used in a quart sized mason jar. The center is a ladder so if the bees fall in the water, they can swim to the ladder and climb out. We purposely made the hole only one inch to help for this reason. The center ladder tube is close on the bottom so it does not allow the bees to get into the glass jar. There are 4 parts included in the package; the center ladder tube, the top plate with hole, the travel plate, and the lid. The travel plate is only used when travelling to the hive to keep the jars of sugar water from spilling.
We were asked earlier this year to create this jar feeder because the gentleman who asked for it feeds his bees above the inner cover. He sits 4 jars on top of the inner cover and places a deep box over that to conceal the jars and then a lid on the box. The bees would crawl up the side of the jar and into the sugar water. However, in a plain jar, many of them would drown because the sides were slick and too far away. This design keeps that from happening.
This type of feeder works because one colony does not tend to drown their sisters to get to the feed. NEVER use this feeder for open feeding lots of different colonies because they get into a frenzy going after the feed as fast as possible and push other bees down into the feed so they drown and then plug up the small opening.
The glass jar is for display purposes only and is not included in the price. This item is made from PETG plastic and comes only in white. We can create these in any color, just takes time to make them depending on current orders.
The lid is designed for a Ball Mason quart jar and the lid will also fit Kerr self sealing Mason jar.
If there is enough interest in creating a pint sized jar, we can design that as well.
Designed and made in the USA by beekeepers for beekeepers!
