20 frame Insulated Layens Hive
Our Layens hives come in various sizes and can be built to suit the customer. We offer 14 and 20 frame hives with flat or gabled lids/roof. Typically Layens hives do not come with legs because of their weight. However, we can build custom stands or the hive can be placed on blocks. Our 14 frame Layens hives typically have one or two entrances in the front. This hive is typically constructed of 1.5" of solid wood for insulation purposes. Our 20 frame Layens hives are fully insulated with 1" of foam insulation on top, bottom, and all sides. This helps the bees maintain their own internal temperature despite the outside highs or lows. Typically these hives are built with two entrances and we prefer gates but can build slots with landing boards if desired. These hives are loosely based off Dr. Leo's free plans from his website but have been modified to add strength and better and quicker construction methods.
