All Over the Place!

As you can tell this is kind of a picture dump for the past couple weeks.  Got a cheap smoker off the internet last year and have not been real happy with it but I wanted to see if I can burn the logo into the bellows and it came out pretty nice!  So if you want a logo on your smoker….

Spent the past Saturday building a large 4x8x8 shelf in the back of the shop.  The picture doesn’t really do it justice since it is just under 8 foot tall.  Why is it not 8ft?  Well it is matches the metal shop which is about 7ft 8in.  It is bolted to the metal as well so it adds additional support.  My plan is to not put too much weight up top but will most likely add a center brace at 4ft, just trying to avoid having another leg in the way.  Put all my foam boards up top and left it high enough to slide the oak slabs underneath.  Then had enough room to put MOST of my unused bee equipment on the shelf.  However, I found out quick that it is still not enough room!  What is it with beekeepers and space?!?  At some point I will add another one.

Got a new order for a 6 pack of long hives and cut the pine for them.  Also planed down some cottonwood to use for the sixth box.  Did some epoxy fills on any knot holes that looked suspect and sanded them down.  Next step is to cut the rabbits out of the sides and assemble boxes….and find places to put six assembled boxes!

In the mean time we got an order for 25 shims for 8 frame boxes.  Picked up the lumber at McCoy’s on Tuesday and chopped up all the boards on Wednesday.  Set the dado blade and cut the rabbits for them as well.  The mitre saw station is making a huge difference in speed.  Also had a request for a cedar shim for an existing cedar hive.  Looking forward to seeing what it looks like in the box with cedar cover boards.
