Finished up some shims for a customer and add some last minute shims to the cedar hive.
Started assembly on the big long lang order and got the cottonwood cut and planed just right and you can see the fit turned out really nice. As for the pine from the box store…well I learned a lesson. ALWAYS run the lumber through the planer just to be certain they cut it the correct thickness. In this case there were a couple boards that were 1 and 9/16″ instead of 1 and 1/2″. This caused my rabet to be slightly off. It still fits fine but it protrudes out slightly and I did not notice it until after I had glued up about half the boxes. I ran the remaining boards through the planer and it made a huge difference. Cottonwood does not smell very pretty when it is being cut but once it is done it sure has a pretty white color. I know cottonwood was named after the seedlings that float in their cotton-like parachutes but the wood is so white it makes you wonder if they named it after the wood as well!
Since we used some nice 3/4″ pine for the bottoms we were able to use the remainder for the dividers. The legs were cut and set up for adding epoxy to the bottoms. Looks almost like toy soldiers all standing at attention!
