We recently started 8 pine hives and finished them up yesterday and six of them were picked up over the weekend. My son, Hunter, started helping around the shop to learn how to build hives and beekeeping in general. Batching out multiple hives at once certainly helps for speed things along but there comes a point of diminishing returns and we might have hit it with eight! The shop is only so big and long langs are fairly bulky when you are building them. Also you really get tired of doing the same thing over and over eight times! It almost gave me a heart attack when I did the math to figure how many 1x4s we needed for all the cover boards…it was a bunch! With all that said now we have two extra pine hives ready for the next order.
Got some ideas for a checkoff document…similar to a delivery checkout sheet because it is so easy to accidentally skip a step like adding the entry gates or latch.
Hunter and I built another rolling cart with scrap 2x4s. We have definitely found they are very useful….wish casters were cheaper!
