Since our daughter created a new logo for us, we needed to get a new brand. We had lots of issues with our previous brand because we bought a basic brand that you heat yourself. The problem is that we could not get the temperature just right…it either burned the wood where you couldn’t read it or it was not burned enough. So we planned to get an electric brand where the heat was controllable and repeatable. Well they were $300!
We had been thinking about a laser engraver for years and since it was not much more than a new brand and can do so much more it was a no brainer! There is a huge learning curve between the laser software (lightburn) and different types of wood or materials. We just started playing with a few things but happy with the results of some logo coins we created out of cedar. We can then glue these into our hives or possibly directly on the hives.
It opens up tons of additional possibilities that are bee related from coasters to cups to signs to laser engraving services! As you can see it even does pictures…though it was a little too dark for cedar so have to adjust the settings….good thing we have a giant pile of waste wood!
Stay tuned for future updates related to the laser.
