Started building an insulated lid for the cedar hive by taking 1×4 cedar boards and adding a plywood top. The key here is to make sure everything is square so that it lines up with the box.
Next comes 1″ strips on the inside edges and insulation in the middle. The strips give us something to nail to once we but on the inner liner.
For the inner liner I typically do plywood but wanted to add a little flare and used cedar. I ripped down some cedar to get to 1/4″ to save weight. Not sure I want to go with 1/4″ in the future because it was not easy to work with…3/8″ might have been better but we will see. The picture has the finished inner liner in cedar and I am happy with this.
Next step is to add the gabled roof.
