Trim added to the lid

Gabled Pine Long Lang

Started working on a new long lang in pine.  This one has a gabled roof.  Started with a 2×12 and used rabbet joints to square up the sides and add more strength.  I really need to get some pictures when routing the bottom…very messy work.  The bottom is 3/4″ plywood which was not cheap but looks so much nicer than sheathing.  The lid is slightly different from some of my other hives and has a small lip on the inside of the lid to rest on the box.  The top of the box has 1″ of foam insulation and then the 5/16″ decking is added for a roof.  Went ahead and added some trim to dress up the gabled ends and added #8 hardware cloth to keep insects from moving into the attic.  There is about 3″ of space above the cover boards and below the lid.  This is for optional top feeders or extra insulation for the winter if desired.  I still want to add a thin strip to the box to mate up to the lid when closed.  This will create a tighter seal between the box and the lid.  Plus it gives the hinges a better purchase.

To Do List: 2 divider board, straight legs, tar paper and cover the roof in metal, drill the entrance holes, and mount the chain.
