Been too long since I have updated the side and finished up these nine hives for a great customer in northeast Texas. Of course they are built from 2×12 pine boards and have flat lids. One disadvantage to having lots of hives in the shop and rolling carts is that sometimes they roll too easily. I accidentally bumped a hive while I was working on another and it rolled out of the shop and off the slab! The lid was not yet attached and simply stood the cart back up and did not find any damage. Can your hive do this? Those glue and screw rabbet joints really do make a difference plus the bottom board (3/4″ plywood) is glued and screwed and adds quite a bit of structural support. Would it have held if it would have been a screened bottom board? Maybe one day we will experiment but have not felt like I have needed screened bottom boards, even when it is 104 and 95% humidity…southeast Texas can get brutal.
