A repeat customer brought some cypress from east Texas and asked me to build him a cypress hive with cypress on the exterior and pine inside. This was the first time I have worked with cypress and found it must harder than pine but I really liked it. This was very stable and I saw almost no humidity movement. The front siding was 13″ boards and while they were joined the battens still cover the seams perfectly.
The cypress legs absorbed quite a bit of epoxy, more than I would have expected from wood this hard.
With the leftover cypress I made him a 10 frame box with a cypress bottom board that doubles as a queen castle. Even made a medium box for it and a telescoping insulated lid. He should be able to have extra queens most of the year now.
