My friend asked me to see if I could make a double screen board for a 7 frame apimaye. Well the timing was perfect because my 7 frame was not in use and I just happened to purchase another deep for it. I used 3/4″ plywood and used scrap cedar for the sides. The best part is that it incorporates the apimaye grooves so it sits on the sides and locks in. This way it cannot just slip off top of the box. Then I repeated that process for the “super” and it also locks onto the double-screen board. I have some more ideas of how to make it better and longer lasting…but really it is a double-screen board and typically they are not used long term. Maybe I can make some changes and sell them if I can batch out a bunch of them.
Added a picture of plastic foundation on Layens frames. I built some Layens frames recently and made extra just for plastic foundation. I made the groove bigger to accommodate the plastic foundation and I had to cut off some of the plastic. These have already been waxed so they are ready to go into some hives.
I used the off-cuts on a couple deep frames…the bees will fill in between…I have seen them do it!
